American
Museum of Natural History
The
American Museum of Natural History is perhaps one of the most well-known
museums in the United States. You can find it in the Upper West side right next
to the Central Park. The museum was established in 1869 and it has about 5
million visitors annually. The building has 45 permanent exhibition halls, a
planetarium and a library. Only a fraction of the museum’s 33 million specimens
is on display at a time. It has also served as the setting of the Night at the
Museum-movies, and has been featured in many other films, tv-series literature
and games too. Because the museum offers a lot of variety in its exhibitions, I
believe almost everybody can find something in there that strikes their fancy.
My personal favorite is the Bernard and Anne Spitzer Hall of Human Origins, or
shortly just the Human origins Hall. I have always found it interesting how we
humans evolved and to see what our roots are. I also enjoyed the cultural
halls, where you could learn about ancient Asian, African and American
cultures. A visit to the American Museum of Natural History is certainly
worthwhile. I could have spent hours and hours exploring the museum and its
many exhibitions, and I would say that it is a must on the list of things to
see in New York.
